What is Project Light?

In Nov. 2007 after the loss of a young transgendered person in West Michigan, Project Light started as an idea for an education forum on LBGT mental health. Working in the community we organized and hosted a Forum to discuss the needs of LBGT youth’s mental health. In January 2008, it was proposed and accepted in March 2008 as a program of the Kalamazoo Gay/Lesbian Resource Center.

During the year, Project Light attends youth events, making sure that as many youth are aware of our light in a dark time to help with mental health issues and coming out.

If you or anyone you know is in crisis please call the Trevor Project Hotline: 866.488.7386

Will you walk with us to prevention suicide and support those who lost someone?
Project Light is forming a team of GLBTA walkers under the Out of the Darkness Community Walk under the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We are walking to raise awareness to the leading cause of death for LBGT youth, Suicide. Help us start a dialogue of suicide prevention and and support services for those that have lost someone to suicide. Donate and help the local community and national prevention research and services. Every dollar given, 50 cents goes to local suicide prevention and support services. 50 cents to national research, that is inclusive of LBGT youth. To donate, learn more, walk, volunteer please visit our team page @ http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&eventID=878&teamID=9839 In 2008 Project Light with its team of amazing walkers, raised roughly $1,100 for the cause. That is $650 to the local community in expanded services and $650 to increase national inclusive service/research.
